With the increasing popularity of “grandma-style” handicrafts, it felt only right to introduce my newest hobby obsession: Embroidery. Embroidery is the art of embellishing fabric using needle and thread. It can be simple or complex depending on the design you choose to embroider.
How I came upon embroidery was kind of funny because I set out to learn Cross Stitch, I found a cute little Cross Stitch kit on Amazon, and thought “that looks easy enough, I can do that.” I realized very quickly that I was wrong. Cross Stitch was not for me. I still wanted that handicraft look and feel and so I decided to try my hand at embroidery instead. Let me tell you, I was hooked the moment I finished my first simple piece. I needed more, I wanted to embroider whatever fabric I could find. I found inspiration on Pinterest, Google images, and even my own fandoms.
As per usual, my latest obsession took over my whole life, and being a librarian, I could make a crafting class to indulge myself and maybe even find other people who want to learn as well. Hence the basic introductory class called Keep Calm and Embroider On was born. I thought some people might be interested, but I was blown away when the class was full by 9:30 am the day it went live to register on our website! Clearly there was a want, and so I have decided to fill this want and continue to develop more skills to pass onto others.
There will be more Embroidery classes in the coming seasons to get excited about, so be on the lookout!
