The first year of Mini Masterpiece taught us that there’s no correlation between the size of the canvas and the impact of the art. It was a lesson we wouldn’t forget as preparations began for this year’s show. We strove to make everything bigger and better, with one exception: the aforementioned tiny canvas. Naturally, the artwork did not disappoint.
This year, our artists were given the theme “Myths and Legends”. A list of book and movie recommendations were provided in the supply kits as inspiration. However, it was clear from the submissions that participants had a lot of fun going above and beyond meeting the prompt. The result was a gallery that felt cohesive, with pieces that clearly represented their artist's unique interpretation of the mythical and the legendary.
The month of September saw more than eighty submissions to our contest, a weeklong mini art exhibit / public voting period, and four works of art that rose to the top. The winner of each age division will receive a gift basket of art supplies, library branded goodies, and a brand-new book related to this year’s theme. All submitted artwork may be picked up at the Dundee Library Information Desk starting October 4th.
Great job to all the talented artists who took part in our program. We sincerely thank you for taking the time to share your creativity with us and hope to see you all again next year!
