Patrons of the Fox River Valley Public Library District have seen many changes over the years as we continuously strive to provide our patrons with not only the latest in the worlds of attention-grabbing literature, film, and music, but also in offering access to essential technologies like checkout laptops and Wi-Fi hotspots as part of our Library of Things collection.

In 2021, FRVPLD introduced two PlayStation VR kits to our collection, compatible with both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 video game consoles. Now in 2024, we are proud to be able to expand this collection by offering two of the PlayStation VR2 headsets, the newest in PlayStation's virtual reality technology.

The PlayStation VR2 kits are smaller and more lightweight, with fewer peripherals to worry about such as excess cabling. While these headsets are only compatible with the PlayStation 5 console, the original PlayStation VR kits will remain in the collection for anyone wanting to explore the world of VR gaming through their PlayStation 4 console.

Also, in the first of its kind for FRVPLD, we have added four Nintendo Switch Lite kits. The Nintendo Switch Lite, not to be confused with the Nintendo Switch console which has removable controllers (JoyCons), is an entirely portable, rechargeable, all-in-one game console ready to play any Nintendo Switch game title you check out from our expansive Nintendo Switch game collection.

All four Nintendo Switch Lite kits include the console itself, the charging cable, and instructions to get patrons set up and gaming in no time. Keep in mind that any user data or game progress on the console will be deleted once the console is returned to the library. Please visit Nintendo for more information on how to back up save data on the Nintendo Switch.

NOTE: Backing up save data will require a Nintendo switch online membership which is not provided by the library.

These new video game kits are now available for checkout to FRVPLD card holders!
