The freedom to read whatever a person chooses is one the library firmly believes in. You’ve probably heard plenty of stories in the last couple of years about books being banned and challenged all over the country, sometimes even in neighboring communities. The Banned Book Club is an opportunity to discover some of those books for yourself in order to understand the controversies and a time to discuss difficult topics.

This month we'll be reading The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison. Set in the author’s girlhood hometown of Lorain, Ohio, it tells the story of black, eleven-year-old Pecola Breedlove and how, in the autumn of 1941, her life changes in painful, devastating ways.
