Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. Learn the importance of Juneteenth, why we celebrate now, and how we can move forward to fight racism in the future. Presented by David A. Swope Sr.
David currently serves as Manager for the Center for Student Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (CSDEI) at College of DuPage. CSDEI promotes equity, access and inclusivity through the recognition of differences and the practice of inclusivity that affect student success, including ethnicity, gender, religion, age, nationality, socio-economic status and ability.
While at College of DuPage David has developed academic, cultural, and social initiatives for a diverse population. These programs have resulted in diversity scholarship awards, a peer-mentoring program, the African American Student Alliance club, a robust Black History Month teaching and learning experience, and diversity seminars and lecture series for faculty staff and students.
Lectures, seminars, and workshops for faculty and staff conducted by David include:

· The Power of Words: Free Speech, Biases and Micro-aggressions.
· Systemic Injustice in America: Policing, Politics, Protest and Peace.
· Antiracist Action in 2020 & Beyond
To promote community inclusivity, David leads the work of CSDEI to collaborate with many community organizations and businesses including; Community Libraries, Local High Schools, Argonne National Laboratory, The DuPage County NAACP, Local Churches, 360 Youth Services, The Chicago Urban League’s Mentoring Program, and Quad County Urban League’s Project Ready program for high achieving minority students.
David holds a Masters of Arts degree in Higher Education Leadership from Concordia University Chicago, a Bachelor degree from Howard University, and has completed training on Race, Ethnicity and Learning from Ohio State University. David is a licensed and ordained minister, who enjoys art, music and sharing his passion for teaching and learning with all people!
