Lincoln on Immigration and America's Place in the World

Mr. Lincoln shares his experiences and thoughts on the subjects of immigration, nativism, international relations, and the global significance of the American Civil War.

Mr. Lincoln discusses the history of immigration in our country, focusing especially on the years from 1830 to 1860 when the rate of immigration increased dramatically and immigrant groups became more diverse. He also discusses the responses to this shift in immigration, including the rise of nativism and attempts to limit the influence of the new immigrants. He discusses his own experiences with immigrants and their place in America. He ties this all in with the related issues of world events and international relations, especially with respect to Europe and Latin America. And he shows how the American Civil War was important not only to the cause of liberty in our own nation, but also to the future of republican/democratic movements in other parts of the world.

This program is most appropriate for adults and for older youth/teenagers (recommended for 12 years old on up). 

Mr. Lincoln is portrayed by Kevin Wood, a professional Lincoln presenter who bears a remarkable resemblance to “the Great Emancipator” and who is extremely knowledgeable about his life and times.
